萊斯特（馬丁·弗瑞曼 Martin Freeman 飾）隻是一介小小的保險銷售員，在家裏，他飽受強勢妻子的壓迫和輕視，在外麵，曾經的高中同學亦能當街給他下馬威，對於所經曆的一切，個性懦弱溫順的萊斯特選擇了忍氣吞聲。一次偶然中，萊斯特在醫院裏結識了名為馬爾沃（比利·鮑伯·鬆頓 Billy Bob Thornton 飾）的男子，讓萊斯特沒有想到的是，這名神秘男子竟然是一位冷酷殘暴的職業殺手。
