羅斯（大衛·休默 David Schwimmer 飾）、瑞秋（詹妮弗·安妮斯頓 Jennifer Aniston 飾）和女兒住在一起，卻沒有戀愛關係，最終瑞秋領著女兒搬回喬伊（馬特·理勃蘭 Matt LeBlanc 飾）那裏，漸漸也對喬伊產生了感覺。錢德勒（馬修·派瑞 Matthew Perry 飾）和摩妮卡（柯特妮·考克斯 Courteney Cox 飾）要一個孩子，但總是失敗，經過檢查發現都有生理問題，決定領養一個。 菲比（莉莎·庫卓 Lisa Kudrow 飾）跟邁克約會，但總要麵對邁克不肯結婚的問題。喬伊帶著Charlie去巴巴多斯島和羅斯一起度假。但由於兩人沒有共同點最終分手，很快喬伊得知瑞秋對自己有好感，Charlie認定自己仍然愛著羅斯，喬伊看到了羅斯和Charlie兩人的熱吻，於是改變了主意來到了瑞秋房間，兩人親吻起來......
