本季以美國民間傳說“洛亞諾克事件”為故事背景，以紀錄片的形式展示。
2015年，謝爾比·米勒（莉莉·拉貝飾）、她的丈夫馬特·米勒（安德烈·霍蘭德飾）和馬特的姐姐李·哈裏斯（Adina Porter飾）為大熱紀錄片《我的洛亞諾克噩夢》以經曆者的身份進行敘述拍攝。他們在鏡頭前講述一年前在北卡羅來納州居住的農舍裏瘮人的經曆，包括房子裏遊蕩的鬼魂、手持菜刀的豬頭人、食人族鄰居、進行“人祭”的英國殖民者等等。紀錄片情景再現的部分，由英國演員奧德麗·廷德爾（莎拉·保羅森飾）、多米尼克（小古巴·戈丁飾）、莫奈·圖繆西美（安吉拉·貝塞特飾）、艾格尼絲（凱茜·貝茨飾）、奧黛麗的丈夫羅裏（伊萬·彼得斯飾）等出演。
