英國攝製的間諜動作片，根據佛德烈．福賽的暢銷小說改編，描述蘇聯的情報局計劃展開一場驚天大陰謀，目的是要摧毀北大西洋公約組織和英美兩國的友好關係。他們派出一名高級情報員喬裝混入英國的一個小鎮，伺機在當地的美軍基地裝置核彈加以破壞。邁克．凱恩飾演的英國間諜偵破這個陰謀，乃千方百計阻止奸計得逞。有趣的是飾演蘇聯特務的皮爾斯．布魯斯南，日後卻成為蘇聯特務的克星007。導演約翰．麥肯西處理氣氛尚稱緊湊，而冰天雪地的外景則增加了戲劇場景的可看性。
