相當成功地將喜劇和懸疑元素交融在一起。William Powell和Myrna Loy 飾演的夫妻檔，是影史上第一對塑造成功的屏幕情侶組合！本片導演就是影壇上有『一次OK』之封號的 W.S. Van Dyke，本片他隻花了兩禮拜就拍攝完畢！由華人黃宗沾擔綱攝影指導。本片獨有的喜劇懸疑風，也成往後這類型電影的祖師爺。Albert Hackett和Frances Goodrich 根據 Dashiell Hammett 的小說改編成劇本。後來還拍攝了五部續集。
