在墓地中，芭芭拉（Patricia Tallman 飾）和哥哥強尼（比爾·莫斯利 Bill Moseley 飾）受到了喪屍的襲擊，沒過多久，受傷的強尼受到感染加入了喪屍的隊伍。求生的欲望引領著芭芭拉來到了一處民宅，在那裏，她遇見了同樣在躲避喪屍的本（托尼·托德 Tony Todd 飾）。躲在屋子裏的並非隻有本和芭芭拉兩人，在地下室裏，湯姆（Bill Butler 飾）與女友朱迪（凱蒂·芬內朗 Katie Finneran 飾），哈裏（Tom Towles 飾）和海倫（McKee Anderson 飾）夫婦逐個現身。 除了數量上的差異，體能和抗擊打能力方麵的巨大差距讓屋內眾人的存活幾率降到了最低。屋外是狂暴嗜血的喪屍，屋內是手持刀槍的人類，一場血腥的戰爭即將拉開序幕。
